Deep River Little League will no longer be accepting registrations for our Fall Ball Majors Baseball team.

Junior League Fall Ball

Grace Petroka has volunteered to organize the CDE Junior league fall ball team(s). The registration fee will be $90.00. Hats, jerseys, belts, and socks will be supplied to the players.

This league is for players who were Spring 2010 age 12 or 13. If you were 12 or 13 on April 30, 2010 you are eligible to play.

The season runs from end of Aug through the first week of Novenber. Typically, there will be one game on Saturday/Sunday, and potentially one game during the week.

Matt Johnson has offered to head coach one of the teams. If numbers call for a second team we will be looking for another head coach. Assistant coaches are also needed. If anyone is interested in doing either, please fill out the volunteer form located in the forms link in the sidebar.

Registration and medical release forms are available online at deepriverll.com. Payment should be made to DRLL and sent to P.O. Box 172 Deep River, CT 06417.

Fall Ball Minors Registration Closed

Deep River Little League will no longer be accepting anymore registrations for our Fall Ball Minors Baseball team. Paul Aresta, Minors Head Coach, will send an Email to all those who registered with more information about what to expect next, however plan on the first week of August to start practices.

End of Season Picnic

Please join us for our End of Season Pot Luck Picnic on Saturday, June 19th from 4 to 7pm at the Devitt Snack Shack. The Deep River Little League would like to host parents, friends and players for our annual celebration of another outstanding Little League season.

Deep River Little League will supply all the hot dogs and hamburgers. We’re asking the parents of our players to supply any “Pot Luck” dish you can bring. You are required to bring “drinks”. Places to sit are rare! Please bring your own chairs.

We also need a Grill Master for the Picnic! Please see us at the Snack Shack if you’d like to help at the Grill!

Deep River Little League Coaches will receive TROPHIES for their players at the Picnic. Players should locate their Coach to receive their trophy. Coaches are required to return all equipment at the Snack Shack.

Parents vs Players game on Devitt B starts at 5pm!

FALL BALL REGISTRATION information will be made available at the Snack Shack. Anyone interested please grab a flyer or registration forms at the picnic!

Picnic Update – POSTPONED!

Obviously, due to the weather we’re rescheduling the picnic to Saturday, June 19th. Time of the picnic will depend on Boys Majors outcome on Tuesday. The Boys Majors could host their tournament game at Devitt on Saturday the 19th, so we’ll have to determine the time of the picnic around that game.

I’ll send an update on Wednesday for the time of the picnic on Saturday.

Again, coaches will receive trophies on Saturday – also, all team equipment needs to be turned in at the picnic.

Little League Baseball Camp

Little League will host several weeks of Baseball Camp this summer at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol. Campers aged 10-12 sharpen their baseball skills while enjoying a wide range of other recreational and social activities. With emphasis on fundamentals, sportsmanship, and just plain fun, youngsters learn baseball as the game should be played. The one-week comprehensive program challenges campers to improve their batting and individual skills, experiment at new positions, and gain actual game experience as part of a camp team. Achievement awards, recognizing baseball and other recreational skills, are presented at the conclusion of camp. With activities including swimming, volleyball, basketball, and ping pong, the Bristol Baseball Camp provides a well-rounded total camp experience. Youngsters are also encouraged to develop their self-confidence and leadership skills amid newfound friends.

Fall Baseball Clarifications

Deep River Little League Fall Ball registrations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis. All post-marked envelopes are saved with the registration. There is limited space for 1 Major’s team and 1 Minor’s team.

League age is based on April 30, 2010. Therefore your player’s age on April 30, 2010 creates his eligibility. If you’re league age 12, you are required to move up to Junior Fall Ball. Junior Fall Ball information will be released once I have been notified who is running Junior Fall Ball.

Anyone interested in exploring an instructional team for Fall Ball, I would like your feedback. I would be interested in helping discuss ground rules (coach pitch, scrimmages, etc.). I can poll other towns in our District to find teams they can play, if other towns run Fall Ball teams for players not age eligible for Fall Ball minors.

Fall Baseball Registration

Fall baseball registration is open for players aged 7-11 (May 1, 1998 – April 30, 2003). Fall baseball is a developmental league, and a great opportunity to transition from farm to minors, or minors to majors.

Registration forms are available online BY CLICKING HERE. The cost is $65 per child. Please fill out the registration form, medical release form, and payment and mail to:

Of course, volunteers are always welcome to coach or umpire. Please fill out the volunteer form!

Fall baseball plays double headers on Saturday afternoons in September through mid October with other teams in District 9. Major’s games are typically 9 & 11:00 and minor games are 1:30 & 3:30.

REMINDER: New Britain Rock Cats Game

REMINDER: On Saturday, May 22nd at 6:35pm, Deep River Little League will be honored at the New Britain Rock Cats game against the Binghamton Mets. Tickets are still available. All Deep River Little League players get one ticket for FREE – additional tickets are $10. Email me for any ticket requests, and I’ll make arrangements for a pickup prior to game day.

Don’t know who you’re watching? Ben Revere and Joe Benson are top prospects for the Twins. Baseball prospect experts liken Ben Revere to Kenny Lofton. Joe Benson has rare tools for a CF, showing serious power and developing defensive abilities, but was just sent down to Fort Myers after a disappointing start hitting .219. It looks like David Bromberg will start – he’s not a great prospect – #9 according to Baseball America, but Kyle Gibson is a Grade B+ or #3 according to BA. AUTOGRAPH TO GET: BEN REVERE.

For the Mets, Reese Havens is a top SS prospect, but he’s blocked by Wilmer Flores and everybody’s love/hate Jose Reyes. Scott Shaw looks like he’ll start, but he’s a nobody. AUTOGRAPH TO GET: BRAD HOLT or don’t even bother! Holt is nothing special – Havens may show up in the Majors by September 2011, but will need to switch positions to make it.

Both teams are struggling this season. While the Rock Cats are always stacked with good pitching, the Mets are empty!

Memorial Day Parade – March plan for DRLL

UPDATE: On Monday May 31st at 9am, the Deep River Memorial Day Parade will march through Main Street to Fountain Hill Cemetery for ceremonies, and then onto Veteran’s Memorial Green for additional ceremonies and speeches. Deep River Little League teams will form on Church Street, and join the Veteran’s processional. Parents are encouraged to march with the kids, however not required. Teams will not return to Church Street – instead the ceremonies will end at Veteran’s Memorial Green, and parents can meet the coaches/teams there.

Those interested in marching are asked to begin formation with YOUR Little League team. No particular order is necessary, but you should try to stay marching WITH your team. Please arrive at Church Street before 9am. I will be there to help direct arriving Little Leaguers to where their teams are forming.
